Notable wins for Hogan and Hackett at Navan

Mouse Morris helped out as Darragh O'Keeffe continued his good run of form with two winners at Fairyhouse on Tuesday.

The pair scored with Whatsavailable which recorded his third win at the track in the near three-mile handicap hurdle. Almost two years on from his last Fairyhouse victory, the Adam Scott-owned seven-year-old was well on top as he raced to a five-length success, at odds of 10/1, over the John McConnell-trained Notkeepingyagoing.

O’Keeffe completed a double 35 minutes later when partnering Henry de Bromhead’s 9/4 shot Native Speaker to win the two and a half-mile beginners' chase.

The MCR International-owned Ja'marr landed the opening division of the eight-furlong nursery handicap for trainer David Marnane at Dundalk on Friday. A strong 7/4 favourite, the Luke McAteer-ridden two-year-old led inside the final furlong and had a little in hand as he beat Ted Walsh’s Adrienne by half a length.

Gordon Elliott dominated over both days of the Navan Racing Festival and amateur rider Harry Swan gave the local trainer his fifth winner of the day when taking the concluding bumper on the Gigginstown House Stud-owned Whinney Hill on Saturday. A strong 6/4 favourite, he scored by a very comfortable three and a half lengths from Ross O'Sullivan’s Strong Link.

Tom Hogan and conditional jockey Cian Quirke were winners at Navan on Sunday where the 12/1 chance Cast A Spell took the mares’ maiden hurdle. The six-year-old had a little to do jumping the final hurdle but she picked up well and came through to beat Gordon Elliott’s odds-on favourite Qualimita by two lengths.

Ray Hackett and Littleton’s Liam Quinlan landed a notable success as they won the €40,000 Tara Handicap Hurdle with Sequoiaspirit which is owned by the trainer’s father Liam.

The seven-year-old, previously a runner-up in seven hurdle races, got off the mark in the jumping game at odds of 28/1 when leading before the final hurdle to beat Gordon Elliott’s Sa Fureur by a length and three-parts.

It was a real family affair as the winner, also a five-timer scorer on the Flat, was led up by the winning trainer’s son Liam.
