Gardaí report spate of thefts in Nenagh district in the run up to Christmas
Gardaí in Nenagh have reported a number of thefts in the locality as criminals try to shore up on cash in the run up to the festive season.
A ride-on lawnmower and strimmer were taken in a burglary of a property in the townland of Ballycorrigan, Ballina, on December 5. The incident occurred in broad daylight sometime between 2 and 4pm.
Thefts from cars are also being reported, including one at Ormond Keep, Nenagh, on December 4; another at Yewston, Nenagh, on Wednesday of last week and a third at Stonehall, Newport, last Monday. A garda spokesman urged vehicle owners to be vigilant.
A number of vehicles have also been stolen, one at Martyrs Road, Nenagh, on December 7. Another was stolen at Lacka, Killoscully, between December 7 and 8, but was later recovered in the Sixmilebridge area of Co Clare. On Monday last a vehicle was stolen from Glencree, Newport. Gardaí later located it in Limerick City.
Gardaí say they are continuing to mount checkpoints on several roads throughout the Nenagh District in an intensified campaign to tackle drink and drug driving over the festive season. Two motorists were arrested in the Newport area over the past week or so and later charged with drunk driving.
In Roscrea, members of the Divisional Drugs Unit seized a quantity of suspected cannabis, estimated to have a street value of €1,700. The haul was discovered on Thursday of last week and a file is currently being prepared for the DPP.
Sergeant Declan O’ Carroll of Nenagh Garda Station said cybercrimes such a phishing are continuing in the locality. He urged people to be vigilant about who they engage with online, saying some of the scams in operation were very sophisticated.
