Nenagh busker in ‘Fairytale’ duet
Conor Fahy covers MacGowan Christmas classic
Buskers Dàwna (Conor Fahy) from Nenagh and Jamie McIntyre from Galway have combined their musical talents to release their version of Shane MacGowan's Christmas classic, ‘Fairytale of New York’.
The two musicians met when they were selected by Gavin James to join him as support on tour in Paris earlier this year as part of Three’s City Stages initiative. As well as getting to open for James on his two sold-out shows in the French capital, they busked with the headliner at the iconic Eiffel Tower.
Both regularly performing on the streets of their respective hometowns, the pair have been friends since. Dàwna recently joined Jamie as special guest on his first ever headline show, a sold-out room at The Loft in Galway, where they performed this version of ‘Fairytale of New York’ for the first time.
Jamie has been riding the crest of a wave this year with his summer single 'Over Galway Town' becoming a viral smash hit amassing over 1.6 million streams on Spotify alone and maintaining a place in the viral charts across the summer. He performed at Electric Picnic and supported Liverpudlian songwriter Jamie Webster on his recent shows at 3Olympia in Dublin and The Telegraph Building in Belfast.
Dàwna has had an equally eventful year and has a close connection with the festive hit, as he performed at the official unveiling of the Shane McGowan mural in Nenagh back in October, with the legendary Pogue singer's family in attendance. The following month the Nenagh man released his latest single Meant To Be’, performing live on Virgin Media’s Six O’Clock show, his first ever TV appearance. He also opened a show for the Coronas in Shannonbridge in the autumn.
