Tipperary Racing Scene
Cloughjordan amateur rider Harry Swan landed the concluding bumper on the Gordon Elliott-trained Forceonmyown at Punchestown last week.
A runner-up at Limerick on St Stephen's Day, the Blue Riband Racing-owned 13/2 chance led before the straight and ran on well to win by two and three-parts of a length from the Liz Lawlor-trained Jem’s Lilly which was ridden by Adam Ryan.
The six-year-old Beckett Rock got the better of a Willie Mullins-trained odds-on favourite to win the two-mile conditions’ hurdle for Rachael Blackmore and Henry de Bromhead at Clonmel on Wednesday. A 5/1 chance, he led after the third-last hurdle and battled well to beat odds-on favourite Bunting by three-parts of a length for his second success in just three starts. The first two home were all of 49 lengths clear of the third horse, Gordon Elliott’s 12/1 shot Angostura.
Falcon Park added to his success at Punchestown on New Year's Eve when taking the two-mile handicap hurdle for Killenaule conditional jockey Niall Prendergast and trainer Paul Hennessy. The 9/1 chance, a nine-year-old, got the better of the Philip Rothwell-trained Robindevidastar by three lengths.
Cian Quirke was again seen to fine effect as he partnered the Tom Hogan-bred and trained Cast A Spell to win the two and a half-mile mares’ handicap hurdle at Cork on Friday.
Under a most patient and confident ride, the 100/30 chance arrived to challenge at the second-last hurdle and he edged ahead of Andy Slattery’s Slim Marvel from the final hurdle to win by a length and a quarter.
Harry Swan landed his second success of the week when winning the bumper on the 100/30 chance Spinningayarn at Navan on Saturday.
The fourth winner of the day for trainer Gordon Elliott, the Robcour-owned five-year-old battled well to beat Barry Connell’s favourite Eachtotheirown by half a length.
Elliott had earlier scored with 6/1 shot Jacob’s Ladder and 12/1 chance Music Of Tara, both ridden by Sam Ewing, and he also saddled Three Card Brag which made the break-through over fences in the three-mile beginners' chase. The 3/1 chance was ridden by Danny Gilligan.
