Decoupage candle display in Nenagh Library

Helen Scott, originally from Laois but living in Nenagh for the past 20 years, is our latest exhibitor in Nenagh Library.

Believing that retirement offers the chance to re-invent oneself, Helen took up decoupage, working particularly with candles. In her own words:

“Most of our lives are spent doing tasks we have to do rather than what we want to do. I have found something I love to do and it gives me great joy. As we grow older, we need to stay passionate about those things that bring us joy, that keeps us connected to this world.”

She has a philosophical view of her craft – candles see us into this world and lead us out of it, being present at both birth and death. They are used to celebrate all the milestones in our lives.

The social aspect of it is another unexpected bonus and Helen’s candles were popular sellers at the local Christmas markets this year, something that she enjoyed hugely. With Valentine’s Day coming up soon, she expects to be busy with sales.

This display will be in Nenagh Library until the end of February.

Helen sells large candles for €10 and small candles for €5.
