Lawson Cup

Ballynanty Rovers 1-1 Newport Town (Ballynanty won 4-1 on pens)

Newport Town’s tale of woe continued on Saturday when they crashed out of the Lawson Cup to Ballynanty Rovers on penalties.

Despite fielding short a number of regular starters, Newport took the lead when Conor Brett finished a rebound after Tommy Holland had saved well from Peter O’Sullivan.

Kane Connolly equalised for Balla with a well taken goal in the second half and neither side could find a winner so spot kicks were called for and Balla held their nerve to progress.

Nenagh doubled their lead on the hour mark when Conor McCormack poked home after a goalmouth scramble.

Dan O’Meara put the icing on the cake for the winners ten minutes from time coolly slotting home after a flowing move.
