The Newport Town v Nenagh AFC Tipperary derby in the Limerick District League took place on Sunday in Derryleigh Park when the home side broke their duck to record their first league win of the season.
Despite playing well, Newport fell the wrong side of lady luck on a number of occasions in recent games. On Sunday everything fell into place.
Even when Nenagh were awarded a spot kick in the opening half, Seamus O'Regan made a superb save to deny Dylan Morrison.
Newport took the lead ten minutes after the restart when Brian O'Sullivan played Christy Doyle in behind the Nenagh defence to fire across the keeper into the net.
Substitute Ciaran Carey made it 2-0 fifteen minutes from time firing a headed clearance low into the net from the edge of the box.
Nenagh, who were missing a number of key personnel, tried to play their way back into the tie, but it was the home side who had the final say when O'Sullivan and Doyle combined again for the latter to score his second to complete the scoring.
