Munster Minor ‘B’ Cup Final: Tipperary 6-16 Clare 3-2

After falling short in their respective Munster Minor ‘A’ semi-finals, Tipperary and Clare met in Bishopstown, Cork, on Monday to contest the Munster Minor ‘B’ Cup final. Tipperary, with the wind at their backs in the opening half, made a blistering start, with Caoimhe Stakelum in fine form. She opened the scoring with a well-taken free before quickly adding a goal from play. Further points from Anna O’Brien, Elana McGrath, and another Stakelum free pushed Tipperary into a commanding 1-5 to no-score lead.

Stakelum continued to torment the Clare defence, adding another score before Clare finally opened their account with a goal from their corner forward Tara Moroney. Tipperary responded well, with Lucy O’Brien making a superb catch and setting up Stakelum for another point.

However, Clare found a way through the Tipperary full-back line again, this time Ciara Punch raised a green flag to leave the score at 1-8 to 2-0.

Emma Kennedy, outstanding in midfield, delivered a pinpoint pass to Maeve Cunneen, who struck for Tipperary’s second goal to restore their advantage. A brilliant clearance by Sarah McLoughlin then led to Cunneen's second goal, making it 3-8 to 2-0.

Stakelum added a free before continuing her excellent form with a surging run and another point. Lucy O’Brien then struck a fine long-range effort from 50 metres after a great delivery from Emma Kennedy, leaving the halftime score at 4-11 to 2-0 in Tipperary’s favour.

Tipperary maintained their momentum in the second half, with Stakelum converting another free. Clare responded with a point from Leah Kelly and a well-taken free, while Caoilfhionn Perill also added a score from play.

However, Tipperary’s dominance continued as Maeve Cunneen completed her hat-trick, pushing the score to 5-12 to 3-2 with sixteen minutes remaining. Clare’s third goal coming from substitute Aoibhinn Creaven.

Ava Gaynor made an instant impact after being introduced, winning a penalty, which Stakelum calmly dispatched to the net. Stakelum added two more points from play in the closing stages, sealing a commanding victory for Tipperary.

Under 17: Tipperary 1-8 Cork 0-4

Tipperary started their Munster Under 17 Development campaign on Saturday with a home match v Cork in Fethard Town Park.

Tipperary played with the breeze in the first half and immediately put Cork under pressure with ferocious workrate from front to back. Tipp took the lead with points from Aoibhín Maher and powered on with further points from Faye Lavin, Malwina Dziewiatka and Torrie Doyle. Maher added a free and Cork were kept scoreless with wing backs Ciara Crofton and Emily McGrath coming out with good ball.

The backs provided a good platform led by captain Kelly O’Dwyer and lots of pace in midfield from Emma Kiely and Eavann Duffy. After 25 minutes, Emma Bonner came on and tagged on a point with good set up from Eibhlin Bourke at centre forward before Tipp got the goal their aggressive play deserved from Eavann Duffy. This gave Tipp a halftime lead of 1-6 to no score.

Cork had the strong wind in second half but the Tipperary backs, led by Ella Frend and Orla Gleeson, put on huge pressure on Cork forwards who were forced into a number of wides. Goalkeepers Maebh Leahy and Ellen Ryan did well with some dropping balls and puckout pressure that Cork put on.

Cork scored three points from frees but Tipp broke at speed with Eavann and Aoibhín (free) adding on points. Full forward Grace Stapleton was a danger on edge of square and won a penalty which Cork saved well.

Tipperary kept up the workrate and support runs with Kaelinn Rossiter, Eimear Duggan up front and Sarah O’Dwyer and Ruth Maher solid at the back. Cork to their credit kept creating chances and scored from play in final few minutes.

Tipperary move on to Munster semi-final v Waterford.

Under 16 ‘A’ Shield Final: Waterford 2-13 Tipperary 1-9

Tipperary and Waterford met on Saturday in Fethard Town Park in the Munster Under 16 ‘A’ Shield Final.

Both sides were eager to claim some silverware and get a win under their belts as sights quickly turn to the upcoming All-Ireland series.

Waterford made full use of the wind advantage in the first half, setting the tone early with a point from Kate Mullane. They dominated the opening exchanges, racing into a 0-3 to 0-0 lead within five minutes. Tipperary responded through a Grace Cleary point, but Waterford remained firmly in control. By the fourteenth minute, they had stretched their advantage to 0-8 to 0-1 as Tipperary struggled to gain a foothold.

Waterford then delivered a hammer blow with two quickfire goals—Kate Mullane and Katie Kenny both finding the net—to put daylight between the sides. Tipperary managed to keep the scoreboard ticking over with Cleary accurate from placed balls and Anna Carr adding a fine point from play, but at halftime, Waterford held a commanding 2-10 to 0-6 lead.

Tipperary showed signs of improvement after the break and gradually found their rhythm. A goal from Aoife Quirke brought them back into contention, narrowing the gap to 2-12 to 1-8.

They produced their best spell in the final quarter, with Cleary continuing to convert from frees, but the deficit was too much to overcome.

Waterford remained composed and closed out the game as deserved winners with Aoife Power winning player of the match award.

Munster Under 16 ‘B’ Final: Cork 3-16 Tipperary 1-1

It was a day to forget for the Tipperary U16 ‘B’ team on Monday as they suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Cork in the Munster Final in Bishopstown.

Cork elected to play with the gale force wind at their back and they took full advantage with a blistering start that Tipperary had no answer too. A goal after six minutes from Casey Lane was followed by a second three minutes later from Aoibheann Lynch leaving the score 2-4 to no score. While Tipp didn’t cough up any more goals Cork continued to score at ease and slotted over nine unanswered points to leave the half time score 2-13 to no score.

Tipp had the wind advantage in the second half, but Cork were never going to give up their commanding lead and added a third goal from Lily Buckley in the 38th minute.

A Saoirse Ryan point early in the half and a late goal from Mackensie Simmons were all Tipperary could manage against an excellent Cork team who ran out comfortable winners.
