Tipperary among the winners at Camogie Association Awards
Camogie Association celebrates Volunteers, Referees, and Media at Annual Awards
The Camogie Association hosted its annual Media, Referee, and Volunteer Awards ceremony at the weekend, recognising the outstanding contributions of individuals who have dedicated their time and talents to Camogie throughout 2024.
The event was a celebration of passion, commitment, and community, highlighting the vital role these individuals play in the growth and success of camogie.
The event was hosted by Eileen Dunne, with a number of media category awards named after Mick Dunne, Eileen’s father, in recognition of the outstanding contribution that Mick Dunne made to the promotion of Camogie throughout his life.
Media Awards
The Media Awards recognised excellence in journalism, photography, and digital promotion, acknowledging the important role that media plays in promoting and celebrating camogie. The winners included:
•Local Media Award (Mick Dunne Memorial Award): Gavin Cooper of the Leinster Express
•Match Programme Award (Mick Dunne Memorial Award): Carlow Camogie
•Photography Award: Marty Ryan (Tipperary)
•PRO of the Year (Mick Dunne Memorial Award): Geraldine Kinnane (Tipperary)
-Digital Promotion Award: Wexford Camogie
Volunteer Awards
The ceremony honoured 28 volunteers from across Ireland, each of whom has made a significant impact on their local clubs and counties. These individuals have served in various capacities, including coaches, mentors, administrators, and fundraisers. Their dedication and tireless efforts have ensured the continued growth and development of camogie at all levels.
Síghle Nic an Ultaigh Award
The prestigious Síghle Nic an Ultaigh Award, a Distinguished Service Award recognising outstanding contributions to the Camogie Association in the area of Administration, was presented to Mary Newman of Glen Rovers. Mary has been an integral part of the camogie community in Cork for over 40 years, serving in numerous roles for both her club and the county board. Her unwavering commitment and passion for the sport have made a lasting impact on the lives of countless players and volunteers.
Human of Camogie Award
The Human of Camogie Award was presented to Margaret Flynn of O’Donovan Rossa (Antrim) for her outstanding contribution to camogie, both on and off the field. Flynn has been involved in her club for over 30 years, serving as a player, coach, and administrator. Her dedication, passion, and impact have left a lasting legacy on the camogie community.
Referee Awards
The ceremony also recognised the dedication and professionalism of the national referees who officiated at the All-Ireland Finals at U16, Minor, and Adult levels. Medals were presented to the referees in appreciation of their commitment to ensuring fair play and upholding the integrity of the game.
