Burglaries and rock-throwing at vehicles on M7 being probed by gardaí
A NUMBER of local burglaries, a significant drug seizure in Nenagh and rock-throwing at vehicles travelling on the M7 near the town, causing danger to life, are keeping gardaí in Nenagh extra busy this week.
Gardaí said several vehicles were damaged on the M7 between Birdhill and Nenagh after stones were thrown at them, posing a serious threat to life of drivers and passengers.
The incident occurred on Wednesday evening, February 12, in the townland of Castlecranna, at around 7.30pm.
Some lorries that were targeted by the culprits were damaged to the extent that they were unable to continue their journey.
The criminal damage to vehicles included the smashing of windscreens. Gardaí investigating the incident searched a property near Nenagh on Saturday last.
The early morning operation led to the seizure of clothing, mobile phones, and cash, including euro and sterling.
Gardaí are asking motorists with dash cam or mobile footage who were in the area between 6.30pm and 7.30pm on Wednesday last to contact Nenagh Garda Station.
“Anyone with information to assist this investigation can contact gardaí in Nenagh 067 50450 or any garda station,” said a garda spokesperson.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported but as yet no arrests have been made.
BURGLARIES
Meanwhile, gardaí are appealing for witnesses following an incident of burglary that took place in Sheshermore, The Terrace, Borrisokane, on Thursday, February 13.
The incident occurred at approximately 7pm at a domestic residence. A number of items have been reported as stolen. Gardaí have carried out a technical examination of the scene.
A garda spokesperson said: “We are appealing to the public for information. Anyone who was in the Borrisokane area between 6.30pm and 7.30pm and anyone who has seen a White Volkswagen Golf travelling in the area at that time is asked to make contact with us.
“Anyone with mobile phone or dash cam footage is also asked to make that footage available.”
Further burglaries occurred in the district, and there was a major drugs seizure in Nenagh on Saurday last.
Gardaí believe that a number of burglaries carried out on the same day in the Killimor area, near Portumna, were committed by the same criminals who targeted the house in Borrisokane.
A similar crime occurred at a house at Kilmastulla, Birdhill. The owners of the house were just away for a short time when the culprits struck sometime between 5.30pm and 6pm on Thursday last.
DRUGS SEIZURE
Meanwhile, a substantial drugs seizure by gardaí took place in Nenagh on Saturday last.
Suspected cannabis, valued at €2,000, suspected cocaine also valued at €2,000 and ketamine with a street value of €4,000 were discovered.
In another development in Nenagh, members of the District Detectives Office seized a number of false documents and false bank cards in the town on Monday.
An oil burner was stolen from a premises in Curreeney over the weekend.
SERIOUS CRASH
Separately, a serious road accident occurred on the M7 outside Nenagh on Monday last. One driver was subsequently arrested on suspicion of both dangerous driving and drunk driving.
