An evening of fashion, fun and fundraising

A spectacular showcase of glamorous fashion is being hosted as a fundraiser for the development of enhanced recreational facilities for the youth of the area.

As plans for an astro development at St Mary's Secondary School, Newport advance, the spotlight will turn to a glamorous evening of fashion and fun as a fundraiser at the Lakeside Hotel, Ballina-Killaloe on the evening of Friday, March 7.

The glamorous models from the Hillary Thompson Modelling Agency, will feature an array of outfits from boutiques and designers showcasing their latest collections.

Outfits from Sinead’s Boutique, Annacotty; Joannes Boutique, Ballina; Frocks, Ballina; Fine Rags, Killaloe; Marion Murphy Cooney, Caroline Mitchell Knitwear, Paco, Mike O’Connell’s Menswear, Limerick, Ber McNamara Designer, Cleo Bridal, Nenagh, are among the collection to be showcases on the evening.

The spotlight will not only be on professional models, but also on St Mary's very own students, who will be gracing the catwalk alongside staff members while the talented Transition Year (TY) students will also be presenting their remarkable Junk Kouture creations, demonstrating the school’s commitment to creativity and sustainability.

These extraordinary and unusual outfits, which have been designed and created by the students from waste materials are part of the Junk Kouture entries for the International competition 2014 and display the extraordinary imagination and creativity of the participants working with waste materials of various kinds.

Orla Thornton, Deputy Principal, St Mary's Secondary School said: “The evening promises to be a spectacular showcase of local talent, fashion, and community spirit, as we unite to enhance the school's sports facilities for all students.”

All the proceeds from the evening will go towards the cost of the astro development being planned for the school.

As of last weekend the sales and donations target which had been set by the school on the site had reached more than 10 per cent over.
