The students enjoyed their visit to Newport College.

Busy times at Newport College

Horse Riding Trip

Students from Newport College’s junior year groups went horse-riding at Liskennett Horse Riding Centre. The students learned all about horses, the equipment used to care for them, how to get on and off the horse and with the guidance of their teachers, they practiced walking and cantering on the horse around the fields. It was a great experience for all the students. They were also introduced to Equitherapy and found it extremely relaxing. Overall, the students learned a lot and hope future classes can experience the fun.

U19 Soccer Munster Semi-Final

Newport booked their place in a Munster Soccer Final after beating Nenagh College 5-1.

Dance Success

Well done to Amy Collins, Mia Power, Alison Comber and Megan Shinners, four Newport College students who competed in a full weekend of dance competitions through the Nicole Sweeney School of Dance from Friday 21st until Sunday 23rd of February. The girls competed in ‘The British and Irish freestyle dance championships’ at The Brandon hotel in Kerry. Their well-choreographed routines got them through to the finals. The time practicing for the lead up to the competition paid off for the students and we congratulate them on their results. This was a great experience for our students, we are very proud of them and wish them well in their future competitions.

Garda Open Day

Six senior cycle students enjoyed a trip to the Garda College in Templemore where they learned about the training Gardaí undertake, including a tour of the gym and driving school. Students were shown all around the college and even had the chance to see how it feels taking a seat on an official Garda bike! From there, students were taken to Nenagh Courthouse where they learned all about the roles Gardaí play in courtroom. Students witnessed a mock trial in the courthouse and even got the chance to sit-in on a live trial taking place. Huge thanks to local Gardaí for arranging this trip!

Wellbeing event for Third Year girls

As part of our Wellness Wednesday last week, we held an active morning for our Third-Year girls. This was a well-deserved treat following on from the huge efforts students spent studying for their recent mock exams. The girls spent the morning doing some Pilates and meditation led by Ms Duggan, which was both fun and helpful in dealing with the stresses of state exams. Afterwards students enjoyed some healthy, tasty treats made by Ms Hayes and Ms Cullen. The girls thoroughly enjoyed the event and look forward to more well-being events being held in future.

Farmer Boys and their calves

A big thank you to Sean Ryan from Dairygold who has helped Kyle, Sam and Cillian on their journey so far. Dairygold have been sponsoring the meals for these 5 Irish Angus calves since September. We thank Dairygold for their continued support and are very proud of the boys who are still progressing well in the Certified Angus Irish Beef Competition. As the boys get ready for their upcoming trip to Brussels we would like to wish them the best in the next stages of the competition.
