St Anne's CC Killaloe go for Munster Schools Rugby glory

The Pinergy Munster Schools Boys and Girls Senior Cup season reaches its dramatic conclusion with all eyes fixed on Virgin Media Park in Cork over the next week.

In the Boys Final, Christian Brothers College (CBC) and Presentation Brothers College (PBC) will renew their long-standing rivalry, with Presentation College aiming for a historic three in a row, whilst the Girls Final will see Sacred Heart Clonakilty face off against St Anne’s Killaloe on Thursday, 20th March.

Pinergy, now in their fourth year sponsoring the Boys Senior Cup and second year supporting the Girls Senior Cup, is proud to champion one of Ireland's most esteemed and long-standing school rugby competitions. They are committed to nurturing the development and long-term viability of the sport for young players of both genders across the region. Through their sponsorship of the Girls Senior Cup, Pinergy is delighted to contribute to the growth of women's rugby and help establish a more inclusive game for all who love the sport.

For over a century, the Munster Schools Boys Senior Cup has been a cornerstone of the Munster Rugby calendar, providing a launchpad for school players to pursue professional careers within the province or within the Club game. This prestigious tournament has served as the initial step towards a Munster jersey for numerous elite players, and Pinergy is honoured to support the continuation of this proud tradition across both the boys' and now the girls' competitions. Both games will also be streamed live by Pinergy’s media partner, the Irish Examiner.

As the Pinergy Munster Schools Boys Senior Cup season draws to a close, attention turns to the battle for supremacy as Presentation Brothers College's reign as Garett Fitzgerald Cup holders is challenged. The stage is set for a captivating showdown, as both teams seek to etch their names into the annals of school cup history.

PBC’s victory over Christian's Brothers College Cork last year moved PBC one title ahead of CBC, making it a 32 – 31 lead to last year’s winners. The possibility of levelling the titles is adding extra spice to this week's rematch as they prepare to clash once more for the coveted title and outright leadership.

Speaking ahead of the finals, Pinergy CEO Enda Gunnell remarked: "We are eagerly anticipating this year's Pinergy Munster Schools Senior Cup finals, with the two title deciders in the boys' and girls' competitions. This season has once again delivered excitement, skill, and drama, a testament to the dedication and hard work across the province, providing players with opportunities to shine in both codes in Munster Rugby's most coveted Schools competitions. Schools’ rugby in Munster is powered by pride and passion that extends into the provincial teams, and we are incredibly proud to play our part in ensuring the long-term sustainable future of rugby in Munster. We extend our best wishes to all the Final teams"

Colm McMahon, Head of Rugby Development at Munster Rugby, commented: "It has been another fantastic season of Pinergy Munster Schools Boys and Girls Senior Cup action, and we are delighted to welcome everyone to Virgin Media Park on Wednesday, March 19th, and Thursday, March 20th, for what we are sure will be two exceptional finals, played with immense grit, determination, and heart by all involved. The Munster Rugby Schools Boys and Girls Senior Cup and our age-grade club competitions are intrinsically linked to Munster Rugby. We are all looking forward to the finals and would like to take this opportunity to wish all four teams the very best of luck."
