Meeting of local ploughing association

Praise for recent championships

At the first meeting held after the very successful recent ploughing championships, North Tipperary Ploughing Chairman, Eamon Murphy, complimented all the members for their help with the event.

He thanked the land owners, the Swan family, the ladies committee who served food on the day one for the novice event and day two for the championships. “It was wonderful with everything going so well and we had no cancellations like previous years because the weather was great,” he said.

The meeting went on to re-activate the finance committee which wasn’t in use for the last number of years. The new sub-committee will comprise of Ray Clancy, Joe Slattery, Andrew Wilson, Eamon Murphy and Denis Cahalan.

Congratulations were extended to Trevor Hogan who came first in the Classic championships held in Urlingford on March 9 and Ethan Harding who came third in his class at the same event.

Three members travelled to Kilbeggan to support the Westmeath championships which were also held on March 9 and the trio of Ray Clancy, James Hough and Tom Duffy were winners in their respective classes. Well done lads.

A vote of sympathy was passed to James Hough on the death of his uncle Tony Cleary, Mucklagh, which occurred on Wednesday, March 12. May he rest in peace.

The 60th anniversary raffle draw will be held in Paddy’s, Terryglass, on Saturday night, March 29, and everyone is invited. All members are out and about selling tickets which cost €5 each for some great spot prizes, some of which are cash prizes.

Three members of the executive committee, Andrew Wilson, Rose Mannion and Denis Cahalan, attended an workshop event held in Thurles recently. The event was organised by the National Ploughing Association and was attended by Anna May McHugh, National Director of the NPA, and her daughter, Anna Marie McHugh, assistant national director, who were on hand offering advice on all matters ploughing. The event was attended by clubs from all over Munster and the evening concluded with an interesting question and answer session.
