Win A House Fundraiser
Last Saturday evening in the Horse & Jockey Hotel, the draw took place for our Win a House fundraiser.
The initiative which was launched last September has proven to be a great success, with over €1 million generated. The success of the fundraiser was down to the great support it received from people right across the country and indeed the world, and also the tremendous support that it received from the GAA clubs of the county.
The night its self was excellently hosted by former Tipperary hurling legend Brendan Maher, who took all those present through each step and explained how the process of drawing the winners would work.
Brendan was also joined on stage by Tipperary senior hurler Conor Stakelum whose company, Retake, played a pivotal role in the marketing and promotion of the fundraiser. Also present were: County Board Chairperson Jimmy Minogue, Vice-Chairperson Michael Tierney, Treasurer Eleanor Lahart and Assistant Treasurer John Delaney, along with members of the draw committee and many more.
The draw itself was carried out by the very well-known and popular, Fr. Vincent Stapleton, under the watchful eye of auditor Ronan Spain. When the winning ticket was verified, it was announced that the proud owner of the house or €300,000 was Stephen Dalton from Ardfinnan. Stephen only purchased his ticket on the day of the draw and was understandably over the moon on hearing the news.
The other prizes were won by Aisling O’Keeffe, Catherine Ryan, Mary Winston Connolly and Sarah Sugrue.
We congratulate all the winners and once again we thank everyone who helped to make the fundraiser such a huge success.

Munster Senior Hurling & Football Championships
Both our Senior Hurlers and Footballers will be in Munster championship action this weekend.
Our Senior Footballers will be first onto the pitch when they play Clare in Ennis on Saturday at 2.00pm in the Munster semi-final.
Having had a mixed league campaign, before playing very well to overcome Waterford in the quarter final, the players and management will be well aware that the challenge that awaits them when they go in to the lions den will be their toughest so far this year. However, they will be well prepared and up for the battle and we wish them well.
On Sunday afternoon in FBD Semple Stadium, our Senior Hurlers begin their Munster campaign against Limerick at 4.00pm, preceded by the Senior Camogie clash of the same sides at 2.00pm
Like the footballers, this will be a big step up for the team, but a step that they are well capable of making. The players and management will want to show the Tipperary supporters that they have made great progress and are ready to take on the next part of the journey, starting with a win over Limerick on Sunday. Best of luck to everyone involved.
Minor Football
Our Minor Footballers travelled to Rathkeale on Monday where they played Limerick in Phase 1 Round 2 of the Munster Championship. Unfortunately, it was not the result they would have wanted, as they were defeated 2-14 to 1-12, see match report on page 69.
Under 20 Football
Our under 20 footballers played Cork on Tuesday evening (April 15th) in what was effectively a Munster semi-final. See www.nenaghguardian.ie for result and report.
Under 20 Hurling
Our under 20 Hurlers play Clare in Sixmilebridge this Wednesday, April 16th, in their third game of the Munster Championship at 7.00pm.
Tipperary will be hoping to continue on their winning ways, following their victory over Cork in the last round.
Minor Hurling
Best of luck to our Minor Hurlers who welcome Limerick to FBD Semple Stadium on Friday at 7.00pm for their round 3 tie in the Munster Championship.
Having suffered defeats to Waterford and Clare in the first two rounds, all concerned will be hoping that Tipperary can secure a vital win in this competition.
GAA and Age Friendly Ireland announce partnership to improve stadia accessibility for older supporters
The GAA and Age Friendly Ireland – the national organisation delivering the government vision of an Age Friendly Ireland – have announced a new partnership to enhance the GAA experience for older members and supporters.
In collaboration with Age Friendly Programme Managers, the GAA will invite a number of their county grounds across the four provinces to participate in an accessibility improvement programme, with a focus on accessible parking, toilets, viewing areas, and improved mobility throughout stadiums, including safe and easy access and exit.
In 2022, Croke Park became the world’s first Age Friendly Stadium, following a four-stage process aligned with WHO’s Global Network for Age Friendly Cities and Communities. Kingspan Breffni Park has also been recognised for its accessible facilities and the age-friendly initiatives led by the Cavan GAA Health & Wellbeing Committee.
The Age Friendly Ireland Shared Service will offer technical expertise, resources, staffing support, and communications to embed an age-friendly ethos across GAA operations. Rooted in community values, the partnership will also seek to enhance volunteering opportunities that deliver strong social benefits for older persons.
The partnership will also seek to capture some of the incredible work undertaken by many GAA clubs and counties in serving the needs of their older members, be that through the likes of the Irish Life Healthy Clubs programme, the GAA Social Initiative and more.
As the first country in the world to adopt the Age Friendly initiative under the WHO, Ireland continues to lead in addressing the opportunities and challenges of an ageing population.
