Ormond Octaves choir set for superb evening of music and song in Thurles
A SUPERB evening of song and music is in store when the Ormond Octaves choir and special guests, Music Generation Tipperary, perform in concert in the Cathedral of the Assumption, Thurles, on Friday, May 2.
All in aid of the Cathedral Reroofing Fund, this musical extravaganza will transport the audience on a truly memorable journey through some of the most beautiful songs of the decades.
The old roof of the beautiful cathedral will be truly tested on the night as the exquisite singing of the 80-member four-part choir of sopranos, altos, tenors and basses is set to lift the ceiling.
Since the establishment of the Ormond Octaves almost two decades ago, the choir - founded by its superb Musical Director, Niamh Ryan - has been packing out venues all over North Tipperary and beyond.
On of the highlights of the year is the Octave’s annual Christmas Concert in Nenagh, an eagerly anticipated event that consistently draws capacity crowds of over a thousand to Saint Mary of the Rosary Cahtolic Church.
Over the years the Ormond Octaves have donated the proceeds of all their concerts to worthwhile local charities and other worthy causes that benefit communities throughout North Tipperary.
Since the Octaves establishment in 2008, tens of thousands of euro have been generated.
The joy for audiences is that they get to enjoy the delights of the choir’s singing while also knowing that the cost of their tickets is going to worthwhile local causes.
PLENTY OF SPICE
Adding spice to the upcoming concert will be exquisite song and musical performances by special guests, Music Generation Tipperary.
Included in the programme will be songs from some of the top soloists in Tipperary. The choir is delighted to see the return once again of the talented tenor from Gurtagarry, Willie O’ Brien. Willie’s delightful singing has been one of the highlights of several former concerts staged by the choir.
Soloists include really talented singers from the choir, including tenor Liam Brennan; bass, Robbie Powell; alto, Edwina Morrissey, and sopranos, Eithne Kennedy, Niamh Slattery and Thurles’ own Maria McElgunn.
So, why not come along and hop aboard the song train. It will be an evening of musical delights with top hits of the last decade and other great numbers from past generations.
Sit back and enjoy the unique and distinctive blended voices of the four-part choir performing their interpretation of the greatest hits from the world’s top artistes.
Soak up the sounds of Abba, U2, Simon & Garfunkel, Adele, Billy Joel, Coldplay, Don McLean, Snow Patrol, Elbow, Lady Gaga and Toto. The programme includes much more, such as hits from some of the top musical shows and films, as well as spiritual numbers to lift both the heart and soul.
