Ben Coen and trainer Johnny Murtagh were early winners at Gowran Park on Wednesday where the three-year-old Aston Value scored a narrow success in the seven-furlong median auction maiden.
In his wife Orla’s colours, the 3/1 favourite led inside the final furlong to pip the Diego Dias-trained Senna’s Girl by a head.
Fozzy Stack and Joey Sheridan were next into the winners’ enclosure as the 25/1 chance Gotomylovely took the fillies and mares’ maiden over eight furlongs. She ran out the widest-margin winner of the day when beating Dermot Weld’s Harana by six lengths.
Sam Coen landed the nine-furlong handicap on the Noel Kelly-trained Bringsty. Owned by the Over The Road syndicate, the well-backed 4/1 favourite raced up with the pace and led passing the two-furlong pole to win by a length and a quarter.
Tippinaway scored a narrow success in the opening two and a half-mile maiden hurdle for Kilsheelan trainer Eric Larkin and jockey Richie Deegan at Clonmel on Thursday. A first winner for the trainer in two years, the 20/1 chance led after the final hurdle and held off the late surge of the Sam Curling-trained Glenmore River, by a nose.
At Cork on Saturday, Billy Lee landed a double and his first success came on the Paddy Twomey-trained Currawood. The 9/4 shot was well on top as he as he skipped a few lengths clear early inside the final furlong to beat Noel Meade’s even money favourite Rowdy Yeats by five and a half lengths. Lee followed up on the Andy Oliver-trained 9/2 chance Apercu in the 10-furlong handicap.
Ben Coen and Johnny Murtagh took the 10-furlong maiden with the Patrick Woods-owned Nautical Force. A well-supported 100/30 favourite, the three-year-old led passing the two-furlong pole to beat Twomey’s Arouet by a length and three-parts.
Nenagh trainer Michael O’Meara won the concluding 12-furlong handicap with the Leigh Roche-ridden Plunkett Street. Owned by the Ryan & O’Meara Partnership, the 5/1 chance made all the running and saw off Paul Flynn’s Grizabella by half a length.
Trainer Andy Slattery and Cian Quirke registered their latest success together as Smooth Tom won the two-mile conditions’ hurdle at Cork on Sunday. Owned and bred by Margaret O’Rourke, the 100/30 chance led before halfway and made the best of his way home to beat Gordon Elliott’s Jigoro by five and a half lengths.
Cian Quirke was a winner again at Fairyhouse on Easter Monday where he won the two and three-quarter-mile handicap hurdle on the Harry Kelly-trained Glen Kiln.
