Cry Baby, The Musical to be staged by Roscrea Musical Society

Rehearsals are well under way for Roscrea Musical Society’s 82nd production, ‘Cry Baby, The Musical’.

This musical extravaganza will go on stage at the Abbey Hall in the town from May 5 to 10.

Roscrea Musical Society has been producing great entertainment for the people of Roscrea and farther afield since 1940.

Staging a show of this level takes a huge effort from a great team of people. From Director - Paul Norton; Choreographer, Stephanie Browne; Musical Director, Mary Rose McNally to a hard working committee who take care of stage, set construction to front of house, etc.‘Cry Baby, The Musical’ is based on the 1990 movie starring Johnny Depp and also included well-known names such as Iggy Pop, Willem Dafoe and Ricki Lake.

The musical version was first staged in San Diego in November 2007.

The story follows Wade ‘Cry-Baby’ Walker, a rebel, who is a favourite among the Drapes, a group of delinquent teens.

He falls for Allison, a wealthy girl, and their love sparks a clash between the Drapes and The Square community. The music score is filled with catchy tunes and 1950s nostalgia.
