Nenagh Eire Og provided a sharp reminder to all others of their county title credentials on Saturday when they handed a sixteen point drubbing to their Annacarty namesakes in a senior hurling championship quarter final that fell well short of expectations.

The West Tipp lads went into this game with a reputation that warranted the utmost respect from any opposition. They have been on the fringes of the county scene for a few years. They decisively beat Thurles Sarsfields in the opening round of the county series and it took county champions Clonoulty-Rossmore two turns to beat them in the divisional final. Underestimate them at your peril.

Against that Nenagh had been waiting in the wings for five weeks since their last championship action and would obviously be at a disadvantage in terms of match-sharpness. And that is how it transpired in the first half as Nenagh squandered some very promising scoring chances from play and frees, a total of nine wides, and conceded a somewhat sloppy goal on the stroke of half-time.

But things were very different after the break as the Nenagh boys found their rhythm and created and took some delightful scores as they swept through the opposition with an ease no one expected.
